Treatment of injecting seawater for oil fields

Without water injection, oil production levels cannot be maintained. Injected seawater replaces the oil that is extracted from the reservoir. This offset the pressure decrease in the field that is caused by oil production. Prior to injection, the seawater has to be treated to remove contaminants that could plug the reservoir and damage injection equipment. Filtration is a key process that remove fine particles. Instead of the conventional technologies Greentech provides compact membrane filters with small footprint for the suspended solids removal from the sea water and for desalination.

Seawater naturally contains sulphates which must be removed. Sulphate removal is important for reservoir souring and scales prevention. Reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration are a water treatment system that eliminates the sulphate from water. Our tailor-made membrane systems meet all specifications of offshore installations.

Treatment of produced water

Oil and gas production processes generate large volume of liquid waste. Oilfield wastewater or produced water contains various organic and inorganic components. By decreasing water disposal costs, treatment of this produced water could improve the economic viability of these oil and gas fields and lead to a new source of water for beneficial use. Greentech offers produced water treatment solutions, for discharge at sea, for irrigation or reinjection.

Hydrocarbon processing industry

Oil refineries, the petrochemical industry, and chemical processing industry have extensive water and wastewater needs. This can provide desalter wash water, boiler feed water for steam production, cooling tower makeup, process water, or utility water for domestic needs. Most processes generate wastewater that must be treated prior to discharge and/or reuse.

Technologies for Oil & Gas

1. Media filters: Suspended solids can be removed by media filtration from the seawater. Polyelectrolyte can be added to agglomerate the seawater colloids and enhance the filtration performance. With this chemical treatment can achieve a better suspended solids removal efficiency. The filters remove the suspended solids in treated water so that it can avoid oil reservoir formation damage. The media filters can be also used as a pre-treatment before the RO membranes.

2. Pre-treatment with ceramic membranes before RO systems for removal oil and suspended solids from the water. The ceramic membranes are highly resistant to extreme pH, temperature and pressure conditions. This makes ceramic membranes suitable for many industrial applications. With the application of ceramic membranes lower chemical cleaning frequency and RO membrane replacement are expected due to the superior UF permeate water quality.

3. Sulphate removal unit: Greentech uses nanofiltration membranes to remove the sulphates from the seawater. Our RO systems are capable for sulphate removal and salinity reduction.

4. Integrated membrane system: We combine UF membranes with NF or RO membranes. We use UF membranes to provide SDI values well below 2, which thus enables an RO plant to perform at its original design capacity with reduced downtime.
